One of the pins on my vga cable broke. It is pin 9. The monitor has been working without that pin for a while. Then all of a sudden the picture stopped today. I have tried reconnecting it and still have no luck. I was wondering if there is a simple way to fix this without buying a new monitor. Does anyone know if it would be possible to take a vga replacement cord and cut off the end where the vga cord connects to the computer. Then cut off my current vga connection and put the replacement end on the end of my monitor cable.

does the power light turn on? no picture or what? absolutely no picture, or do you get the no signal box floating around? if no picture at all, something went with your monitor, if you have the no signal, not sure how to replace the cable.

There is signal. The monitor powers on. It even does self testing when its not connected. When the connect the monitor the screen goes black.

If you didn't change anything, I'd say something went on the monitor, and not because of the pin. Are you talking about splicing the cable? If so, DON'T do it. I tried it on an old 15'', and whenever you touch the cable, of move the monitor, the colors go out of whack, and it's blurry. Also, the colors for the wires are different usually. If it's a nice, expensive monitor, I'd take it to a repair shop and let them mess with it. Otherwise just get a new monitor, as they are pretty cheap now. Just my $0.02.

You can splice it. Takes a lot of time.

Go to radio shack and get the 15pin dsub connector and a dsub shell to go around it. Costs about $3 total.

You will need to solder the striped wires to the new dsub connector. Do the middle row first (Trust me)

You will have to find the connections online though as I don't remember where they are.
