Help with very low 3D mark scores (8200 on Ti4600/XP1800+)

Hi,

I am using an MSI GF4 Ti 4600 card, an Athlon XP1800+, 256 (CAS2) DDR an SBLive 5.1, and ATA 100 HD and Win2k SP2 with whatever drivers are the latest ones on nvidia.com

I do not understand why my 3D mark scores are so low - 8200 seems horrible.

I did replace a GeForce 2GTS card - all I did was swap cards, boot into VGA and install the latest det drivers.

Does anyone have any ideas, I would think I should be in the low to mid 9000s at least :(

Anyone know of any GF4 tweaking sites?

I am not OCing anything.

dude 8200 is not horrible i have a pny geforce 4 ti 4400 overclocked to the speeds of your card and im scoring anywhere from 6200 2 6900 some things to check in your bios are if you agp apeture size is set at over 16 i have mine set at 256 cause they recommend 2 set it at half your ram also make sure you have agp fast write enabled as well as agp 4X if your motherboard can handle it. But also i dont know that much about win2k but i dont think its as good for gaming as xp or 98 is

8200 is pretty not-good for his setup. ive got a 1700+ 256mb with a visiontek ti4400 and i get ~9500 stock. i can get over 10k oc to ti4600 and some tweaking. (winXP pro)

3dmark2k1

first thing i would check is antialiasing. that's what most people recommend first. turn that off. i dunno if it affects anything, but turn off all your other programs while running it. agp4x and all that stuff.

i cant think of anything else, but you might try using the detonator destroyer files (gets rid of the drivers) and reinstall.

good lucky

rainypickles,

Don't be silly. His score is not that low, even for his set-up since it's not "tweaked".

davidrees,

Don't worry about your score of 8200. It's just a synthetic benchmark. By the way, I have not seen too many scores with an Win2k OS. Are you familar with what other guys are getting on that OS?

If you are really worried about, then I recommend MINIMIZING what's running in background and doing some tweaking. PLUS, make sure all setting in Display properties are set to MAXIMUM and make sure you don't have AA on or something...

As for tweaking websites, I would recommend going to MadOnions Forum and searching messages. Go here:

hmmmm. it just seems low to me. but then again, i dont have much experience with this.

mad onion project search

i searched for default project, amd xp 1533mhz, ti4600, and windows2000 and the lowest score was ~8300.

and yeah, its a synthetic benchmark, so it doesnt matter much. if it keeps you happy in games and whatnot, its doing its job =) (but who doesnt want to be top of the heap in numbers?)

davidrees,

Here is another big question: What kind of score did you get with the GTS? If you were getting about 3000, then 8200 is very good, don't you think?

rainypickles,

We know his hardware, but we don't know much more than that. He could have way too much stuff on his hard drive and too many programs using system resources and maybe he didn't Remove the old nvidia drivers and maybe he left AA on, etc.....

I would feel a lot better knowing that he did a clean reformat and that he is using the best drivers for his mobo, video card, etc and that all options have been set for maximum speed in Video card properties.

Get my point? Getting a higher score on 3dMark2001SE is a matter of knowing how set up the envirnoment.

3Dmark is all about tweaking. Most likely you have FSAA turned on. You are getting low scores, but it is because some of your settings are off or something. Your system is not underperforming, it is just not optimally setup. If you want tweaking advice, I suggest that you visit the MadOnion forums. I know about every trick in the book, but I don't feel like typing them all.

-crzyricn- If you had PMs turned on, then I would have suggested this to you in private, but you don't. Setting your AGP aperature too high can also decrease performance. You really have to experiment to see what size gives your system the most performance. Personally, I wouldn't set mine as high as you have yours set even if I did have a bunch of ram. I normally have the best luck with 128MB or 64MB.
