Help with USB Ethernet Adapter

I just got a Netgear EA101 USB Ethernet adapter.

Whenever I reboot my PC (in Win2K or 98), the adapter comes up as unknown USB device and I need to reinstall my USB drivers to get it to work.

Help!
 
You shouldn't have to reinstall the drivers. Try going into control panel and "refresh" the USB hub or have it scan for connected devices - or, unplug the USB cable from the NIC, and then put it back. Either of those might work.
 
boot with the usb unplugged, then plug it in after the machine is completely booted. Odds are you booted with the usb plugged in for the first install, which is a nono
 
Unfortunately, everytime I boot up even after the drivers are installed it asks for the drivers.

Plus I don't want to keep plugging and unplugging the adapter everytime I turn on the PC.
 
I think what Xan meant was
1) unplug USB device
2) reboot with usb NOT plugged in
3) wait until OS is completely started
4) plug in USB device
5) install drivers

After this, the ethernet adapter should work fine if left plugged in during reboots.

If it was as simple a solution as that, yes it would have been done by now.

The instructions specifically state the process in which to install the adapter.

The problem is that Win2K lists the USB adapter as unknown USB device everytime I reboot. If I unplug the adapter and plug it back in it would recognize the adapter and ask for the drivers.
