im gonna uprade from my old computer to a 64 but i sorta confused what to buy i got about 1100-1400 to spend on cpu/mobo/ram/vid card/cables/heatsink and fan . im into gamming and a little cd burning . this is what i m thinking of

amd 3200 $270
or 3400 64 $400
cpu 1mb cache
what heatsink and fan Thermalright SLK-947U ??????

some one said go with the 3200 cause of the 130 dollars differrence and they said that i wont see much difference.

nforce 3 250 MSI K8N Neo Platinum Edition $150
or nfoce 3 asus K8N-E Deluxe $150
is there any other mobo you would suggest??? I'm confused because i heard that the msi is the best but theres so many problems ..

OCZ Enhanced Latency PC3200 Platinum Edition 1gb $260

should i got for pc 3500 or pc 3700???? or differnt memory its CAS 2-3-2-5 T1
also someone told me that the difference in the price of the 3200 and 3400 i could get 512 more ram how much of a improvement will i see in getting 512 mor 1512 compared to 1gb

6800 gt $399 or
6800 ultra $499 ??
there a artical in guru 3d that the gt is the same as the ultra but it depends on the process so you need a faster processor to see the higher improvement in grafic card

I was going to try and oc a little the cpu and vid card but im new and dont know how but i thought that would help both improvments, i know what ever i get will be a huge improvmnt over my 1.2 tbird and 512 ram and ti 4200 vid card that i have now.

i have a dell p990 monitor its a 19 inch and i was wondering if i got a new monitor will i notice a differnce or not ??? any advice ill take

I've been facing the same conundrum and have decided to build one more Athlon XP system(using 3000+ mobile Barton). This should allow the AMD 64 to "mature" a bit and also there are some other new technologies on the horizon, such as the BTX form factor. I know that's not much of a help, but you seemed to be having some misgivings about the MSI (probably well-founded misgivings) and all so I thought I'd give you my opinion. 😀
Good luck. I'll be building a Athlon 64 system next year.

There's always a huge price premium for the fastest one or two chips available, unless you're wealthy (and really, even if you are) I'd go with the 3200+.

Yo MTV Raps

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ DTR 1MB L2 - $274

Asus K8N-E Deluxe - $143

CoolerMaster Hyper 6 - $49.99

OCZ EL 1024MB PC-3200 - $241

PNY GeForce 6800GT 256MB - $339.67

TOTAL: $1047.66

Do you need a case, optical drive, hard drive, etc.? If so, I'd suggest the following:

NEC 8X DVD +/- RW - $69.99

Hitachi 7K250 160GB SATA 7200RPM 8MB Cache - $96

Antec Sonata w/ 380W PSU - $99.94

TOTAL: $1313.59

If you're gaming, the 6800GT gives you the most for your money, period.

The Athlon 64 DTR version is the new CG stepping, so it runs cooler and overclocks better than the regular desktop Athlon 64's. The K8N-E also works well with DTR Athlon 64's.
