As most of us im operating on a budget while still trying to maximize my new gaming machine. I'll be looking at OC'ing it at some point. Im not concerned about the CDRom, Floppy and so on....

Here are my proposed options at the moment. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

*********
CPU: 'Pentium 2.4B C1'
Mobo: 'Abit BH7' OR 'Albatron PX845pev Pro' OR 'ASUS P4PE'
RAM: 'Kingmax 512Mb DDR400\PC3200'
HDD: 'Western Digital 80Gb 7200rpm Hard Drive (8Mb cache)'
Video Card: 'Leadtek GeForce 4 ti4200 128MB 8xAGP' OR the more expensive 'Sapphire Radeon 9500 pro 128MB'
Case/PSU: 'Antec LANBOY Aluminium ATX Midi Tower Case (includes 350m psu)' OR 'Antec Sonata Quiet (includes 380m psu)'

You are looking at a similiar system to one I recently built. What I used different from your list Crucial pc2700 ram - Sapphire 9700 non-pro and an Enermax case. I don't OC so I didn't need the faster ram. I used the Abit BH7 mobo. It went together like a dream and works flawlessly. If you could find the extra dough, I would get the Sapphire 9700. The Ti4200, is a good card, but it is yesterday's technologhy. I use a Ti4200 myself, so I'am not bashing nvidia. I almost bought the Leadtek Ti4200, a nice card, but I added the extra money and went with the 9700 at the last minute. I'am glad that I did; great picture and speed.

Use WinXP if you already don't. When I tried to install Win98se, it kept crashing. I looked up the code on the internet, was taken to Microsoft knowledge base and found out that Win98se has a problem with CPU's > 2.1ghz. It said to call for the fix; bought XP instead. WinXP installed with zero problems. Just something to be aware of!

Well it depends on how much money you want to spend. You can get the WD hard drive at BestBuy for $69 AR. The 4200 is on sale at Compusa for $79AR I think. The pentium setup is a good choice although I think my system is a better value. Here is what I have:
AMD 1700+ "l" 1.5v chip from excaliberpc running at 215x11=2300 Cost ---- $72
512mb Kingston Hyperx 3500 DDR $117 i think from newegg
Epox 8RDA+ (Abit NF7-S is a great board too) the 6 channel sound is better than my Audigy and this board has pci lock $94 from newegg
GF4 4200 bought for $79 at Best Buy

I would rather have a 9700 but i sold my gf3 to someone for 65 so the net on the card was only $14.

I got this case:

Intel and AMD are both good companies. I dont care if my cpu is an intel or an amd. I just buy the best value at the time I get it. My cpu scores 7155 in cpu mark. Good luck on you choice

Chieftec type

Have you considered AMD processor? I'm not a fanboy, but you could put a few bux toward other components by using AMD. Your proposed system looks pretty good tho.
