I have an Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 5000 Dual Band Wireless Access Point (802.11a and 802.11b --- 5GHz and 2.4GHz), and i configured it and all, but it keeps giving an error when I test the connection on the xbox 360.

The error says:
Your console was unable to negotiate a lease with your DHCP server. Make sure that your addressess are available on your server.

Is this wireless access point also function as a wireless bridge? Please help, how can i get the xbox 360 to connect with this wireless access point via an ethernet cable?

My setup is:

1. modem and router is setup on the first floor of my house.
2. PC (with wireless adapter) and xbox 360 is setup on the second floor of my house.

here is a link to the product - http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/Intel_Pro_Wireless_5000_LAN_access_point/4505-3265_16-7512661.html

Thanks alot for any help.

Welcome to AnandTech Network Forum.

Let first Clarify your connection.

A Modem and a Wireless Router on one floor.

A computer with Wireless card on another floor (and it actually working wirelessly), and an X-Box with the Intel Access Point connected to the X-Box, with the intention to use it as Wireless Client device and connect to the Wireless Router?

According to the specs. the Intel Wireless LAN pro should be able to connect as a client.

To be sure (if the system is Not MDX) you need to use crossover cable when the AP is connected to a computer or the X-Box.

I would suggest that you should start by connecting it as a client to a computer (Not the X-Box) configure it and make sure that it can work with your Wireless Router. Only if you have a real valid connection between the computer and the Router, remove the Ap from the computer and connect it to the X-Box to see if it would work.

I configured the WAP via a web browsing configuration from a computer connected to the router via an ethernet cable. The WAP was also connected to the router via ethernet port when it was configured.

The problem when i test the WAP on the X-box 360 is that it doesn't confirm, or should i say, it doesn't address an IP address automatically to the X-box 360. Instead it says it can't negotiate a lease with the DHCP server in order for the router to automatically assign an IP address to the X-box 360 via the WAP.

I guess my question to you JackMDS is that is this Intel WAP able to act as a wireless ethernet bridge in order for me to connect the X-box 360?

Thanks.

Connect the WAP with crossover cable to a stand alone computer that its IP is set to obtain IP Auto. Configure the WAP on the computer to connect wirelessly to the Router. I did not see the WAP?s manual but might be that Bridge mode is Not what you are looking for. The Intel is a pro Router and Bridge mode might mean Bridge with another WAP, you have to configure it to a Client Mode (or some similar expression http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Modes.html )

If the WAP while connected directly to a computer was capable to connect to the Wireless Router Wirelessly, then it means that it is configured as a Consumer Bridge (or client mode).

Only if it is working wirelessly on a computer as a client there is a point to move it to the X-Box, it suppose to do the same with the X-Box, unless there is compatibility problem with the X-Box, the 5000 is rather an old model.
