A couple of comments. First of all, that's an SLI board with an nVidia chipset but you're using an AMD graphics chip. If you want a dual GPU board, you'll want one with an Intel chipset. The nForce 750i is also pretty outdated. For $5 more, you can get a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P which used the more modern Intel P45 chipset. It's a pretty feature rich board and I've always found Gigabyte's mobos to be quite reliable.

Secondly, do you really need a quad core? If this is a gaming system, they're not necessary. For professional work, I'd go with AMD's Phenom II instead. You'd be better off goign with the Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz I think for $167.99

Bump your RAM up to 4gb and use a 64-bit operating system. DDR2 is cheap and it will give you plenty of overhead.

You can get a Radeon HD 4850 512mb for only $20 more than the 4670. Vary roughly speaking, the 4850 is about 50% faster.

Second try looks pretty good in terms of a better balance between CPU and GPU. But not sure about the nForce720D chipset on the mobo - anyone used this?

But a lot depends on what games/resolution you are hoping to play on this "gamer rig".
