I am trying to upgrade the firmware in my TDK 40X burner (to fix the fact that Roxio ECD creator will not recognize it) I went to TDKs site bu they say the firmware they have is only for the 40/12/48X CDRW not 48/12/48B which is what I have.

I did search for "48/12/48B firmware" which led to this site http://www.tdk.com.sg/index.htm
I downloaded the firmware they have, but when I install it I get this error.

ERROR:

Can't found CDRW401248B firmware: Z7S1-Z7SZ drive !

This flash utility only supports CDRW401248B firmware: Z7S1-Z7SZ

Detected drives:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

0-0-0 E: TDK CDRW401240B Z7SB

It appears I have a 40/12/40 drive not a 40/12/40 drive they advertise, I am not too concerned with it, but it does appear to be somethign people should be aware of. I am more concerned with getting easy CD Creator to work.

Any help is appreciated.

suggest you search the roxio site for an update patch for ezcd creator to allow the burner to be recognised!

Bacillus is correct, you should be able to find the 5.1 upgrade for Easy CD Creator on Roxio's website, which should solve your problem.

TDK is currently selling 40/12/48 and 48/16/48 only, I don't even know there is a 40/12/40 or 48/12/48 version. Are you sure you got the number right? TDK seldoms updates the firmware, so you may be better off to get one that works right out of the box.

I had the same problem. SO, I searched a bit more.
The firmware you downloaded is from Singapore. It seems that the other countries have a different BIOS (for example, a drive reviewed at http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Art...ine=40x+CD-RW+Roundup+Vol.+2&Series=4&index=4 which is "the European retail version", has BIOS revision of "vZ7S4") I am sure that we have the same units, but TDK assigned different signatures. So unless someone can hack the program or we can change the signature on our BIOS, there is no go...

Good luck with TDK flash updates, my old 12x would not flash because there were 3 different models.
I contacted TDK numerous times and they sent me flashes that did't work. Their support sucks big time.
I had to flashh it to a Plextor to get it to work with the update.
I since bought a Liteon and haven't had a problem since.

OK, I found a solution. The problem is due to ( only US?) TDK's firmware. It has "401240B" instead of "401248B" for the drive signature.
First, search for "mtkflash" on the web, and backup your original firmware. Next, using a HEX EDITOR (also search for "free hex editor"), change texts of "401240B" to "401248B" in your backed up firmware. (I found 3 or 4 of those "401240B"s.) Then, save it and flash your firmware using mtkflash with the modified (or corrected) firmware. Then, you can use the TDK's firmware which you found.
Good luck!!
