Help With Sunrocket Gizmo!

I just purchased the Sunrocket and it comes with a QoS router called a Gizmo.

My main reason for purchasing this was becasue my old VOIP service (Packet8), would give me choppy phone calls when I was downloading/uploading something.

Anyway, when I hook up the Gizmo before my router ("in front" of it), my internet connection is extremely slow. However, when I try to hook up my Gizmo behind my router, it doesn't work.

What is the deal here?

Which way should I connect it so that I can have fast internet when not on the phone but have great calls while still downloading/uploading (as in the Gizmo acquire the needed bandwidth when making a phone call)?

THANKS

Put it behind the router for easiest/best performance. It probably doesn't work behind because you had it in front of the router first and it already acquired a public IP. You have to leave the gizmo's network cable unplugged for a while (up to 45 minutes according to some) for it to release the IP. Then you should plug it into your router (make sure you have a DHCP server 😉).

Ok I'll try that. If i put it behind my router, will it still give me the same problems as my Packet8 did because that was behind the router as well?

I just dont want to be downloading/uploading something and get a phone call and then have to hear static and the other person breaking up.

THANKS

Ok, I unplugged the network cable and the power cable from the Gizmo for 50 minutes and I just plugged both in and I still get the same problem. The Power and WAN lights on the Gizmo are on but the Voice light is off and Ready light is flashing.

My router is an SMC7004VWBR and I have it set to DHCP.

What could be wrong?

THANKS

hrm...that's strange. Do you have any sort of ping flood protection turned on? I remember seeing something about that causing problems.

Not to my knowledge. What should I check for in my router settings?

THANKS

plug ur pc behind the gizmo, http://192.168.251.1 (password is "welcome"), change it so that it gets a static ip (under wan), then put ur pc behind the router again and put the static ip u just gave ur gizmo in the dmz..

oh and make sure u powersurge ur equipment...

Ok, how do i put the static ip in the dmz of my router?

Is the same as "virtual server" under my router's NAT settings?

If so, what ports is the gizmo under?

no, dmz is the Demilitarized Zone, all u need to know to put anything in there is the local ip address (which u assigned)

In order for me to have a DMZ, I have to enable my NAT Firewall. However, since my NAT firewall was disabled up until now, shouldn't the Gizmo have been able to connect anyway?

THANKS

your gizmo should be able to connect regardless of the firewall... however if u put it behind the firewall, it might not be able to recieve calls (inbound w/o request), have u tried it? still doesn't work?

well the thing is, when i hooked up the gizmo directly to the modem and to my computer, i couldn't get an internet connection on my computer. And now when I try the old way, of hooking it up before my router, it doesn't work anymore. I just dont understand this thing.

THANKS
