Hmm ok so this is my dads computer and you would not believe the aggro this has cause me so far tonight when i have sooo much college work to do!!:|

I have had to re-format my dads computer and have installed win2k on it, to connect to the internet it has to go through my server, this runs a combination of proxy+ and ICS. The whole network has zonealarm on it configured to low for lan and high for internet. What happens is when i set up my dads computer i put in either the proxy or the gateway address (192.168.0.1) or both and then load up IE. It says trying to find 192.168.0.1 in the status bar then 404's and can;t find a thing. Given a little playing doing different things each time it seams to work. Then i goto reboot and the whole thing starts again doesn;t work :(. If this was my computer i wouldn't mind as i could play about each time but it's my dad and he's getting a bit mad it won't work, so pretty please help me sort it out!

Needless to say when i get it working again it will run seti

Can you ping your gateway from your dad's machine?

I have a similar set up. However in IE I have "Automatically detect" and no proxy stuff entered.
In network settings under TCP/IP I put 192.168.0.1 in for my gateway and then I put in the DNS servers of the ISP for DNS settings.
Of course I have ICS set up on the gateway machine, but this should go without saying...

thanks for your help, i got it to work in the end.

I decided to ditch the proxy and use just ics, then i put in the ip of my server in the dns and winnet(?) parts of the network connection and it seams to work, i hope.

Thanks again, now it's 9:00pm here and finally am able to start my mechanics homework, all i want to do is sleep :(

Glad you got it going Alex. :)

I was curious about the proxy also. You theoretically wouldn't need it if you're using ICS for NAT. :)
