first off here is my rig
Amd 1600+
768 megs of ram
60 gig WD hd
geforce 3 ti200
SB audigy
gigabyte 7adx mobo

Recently when i turn the comp on right after it gets to the scrolling bar on the bottom of the screen it stops responding, the hd activity light stays on but the monitor light turns yellow like it has no input. The problem is getting worse and worse it use to take 3 startups for it to finally work and today it took 8 startups, since i cant reboot i have to restart every time. Also if this helps, last night my usb mouse was locking up, i got a message saying the device wasnt recognized and it was the same in every usb port i tried, so i went with a trusty ps2 mouse. If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Welcome to ATF. The problem could be any one of many problems. Start by removing all the unnecessary hardware (like the SB audigy) to see if the problem goes away. You could also remove all but one memory stick, then swap them if the problem does not go away. Get memtest86 and see if it finds any memory errors. Download the disk tester from WD and see if you have any harddrive problems. If I had to guess I would say it is either the MB or the memory.
[Edit] Good point sisooktom, the PS is another potential problem [/Edit]

Ok i did run the WD diag the other day as well as ran a memtest and both came back with no problems. The PS i have on there now is an older antec 300w which is nearly 3 yrs old. Im upgrading the whole system next month with a amd64 3000, MSI n8n neo plat and 1 gb of corsair xms memory, and a antec 430w true power PS. All i really want to know is if the HD i have now is ok or it possibly at fault here, once the system is running i have no probs except for the usb ports which lock my mouse up now. Any other feedback would be appreciated.
