I don't have much experience with macs, but i'm trying to speed up my gf's computer. OSX Mail always starts up on boot, and since she doesn't use it, i figure that there would be a little bit of extra resources free.

SO how do i do it? It won't let me simply delete it from the startup items list. Thanks

Just because it loads up in the dock doesn't mean the program is starting. If there is a arrow pointing to the program then it is indeed starting up, like Dashboard. If that is the case you right click Mail and click off "Open at Login".

If you want to delete it from the dock you just click and hold the program and drag it off the dock and let go of your click.

No. Just click on the Apple Mail entry on the list once, the background color of the entry changes, and then hit delete (alternatively you can click the small minus sign under the list). This should do the job.
