Yelp...I thought I would be the last person to post a thread for help on a speeding ticket. So here goes and you guys can flame away because I know I focked up.

Do you get more points for a ticket if it's more over the speed limit then another ticket that is less over the speed limit.

For example in my case, I got two tickets for speeding in the last few months, one for 45 in a 25, not a school zone and the big one, 95 in a 55. Will I get more points for the 95 in a 55 ticket or u get whatever points no matter how fast you were going over the speed limit. I can go to traffic school for one of them so I want to get hit with the least possible points on my license. This is in cali if it makes any difference.

Thanks
Iilac

I can't say for sure but I'd imagine you'd get more points for the 95 in a 55. You're lucky they didn't nail you for wreckless driving. That's pretty close to qualifying for it most places I believe.

95 in a 55? WTF?

A cop is supposed to arrest you on the spot if the ticket is for 25 or over the speedlimit. THe fine IS based on how far over, and no judge will be lenient on you for a 95 in a 55.

I recently got a speeding ticket and asked the judge for deferred disposition. This is where I only pay 150$ including court costs, and for the next 3 months, if I dont get any other tickets, the ticket gets dropped.

I normally support people fighting the system(ex. speeding tickets), but going 95 in a 55 zone is just plain stupid...

I had a 93 in a 70 on the 5.. granted, not in a 55 but I might be able to help somewhat. Make sure you can do traffic school for that 95 in a 55 if you plan to take traffic school for it [I'm not sure if you already know whether you can take traffic school or not so I just wanted to throw it in]. Some counties refuse to let you do traffic school if the ticket is for over 90. I was able to traffic school for my ticket and not have to worry about the points though.

Oh yea, that was for a freeway.. if you did 95 on a city street, I can't help you there.

95 in a 55, just WTF were you doing going that fast? I could understand 60 or 65 in a 55 but 95 is WAY over the limit. I'm suprised you didn't get arrested on the spot as in most states 25-30 over is considered wreckless driving. Expect to get a lot of points for the 90 in a 55, and I have to wonder if you may lose your license over it.

In MD it's something like 1 point for every 5 miles over. Maybe you should get a lawyer to plead your case and maybe you can get a reduction in points. Theres no way your going to get pbj.

Hi, I just got a 45 in 25 (school zone) speeding ticket yesterday. The court date is Dec. 10. Do I pay the $175 fine first, then show up in court and plead not guilty, then hope it is reduced or I can take traffic school? Or do I wait until the decision given by the judge before paying?

Both of those are pretty bad, but I would say the 45 in 25 is the worst. Here in Chicago the interstates are 55, and people routinely go 85+ (in low traffic). Granted 95 is still pretty bad.

However 25 is for residential zones. Anyone speening in a residential zone should be should be shot. :|:|

WTF are you talking about?

And pretty common in areas like chicago where major superhighways still have artificially low speed limits of 55mph. And in Michigan where it's 70mph, it's not uncommon on open stretches for impromptu caravans to form going 90+ mph.
