I just bought an audigy 2 ZS. Right now i have a creative i-trigue 3300 (2.1) hooked up to it.

Since the sound card supports 7.1, i was thinking of getting a 5.1 speaker set to use with my existing 2.1. Dont want to let that extra 5 go to waste !!

I'm on a budget right now (just upgraded graphics :) ), so i'm looking for something cheap (around $50).

I have a few options,
Creative Inspire 5.1 5200
Refurbished Creative Inspire 4.1 4400

They are both selling for $29.99 now.

Are these worth it or do you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks!!

The x530s are the newer Logitech set if you can't find the z640s. I've heard the x530s are better too.

Normally I'd say it would be a good idea to try to find the 5.1 equivalent of what you're using now for a better match of sound, but it looks like even if there is a 5.1 version it would be out of your pricerange.

The other creative speakers don't seem to be related in design to your current set at all, so I wouldn't worry about sticking with Creative for the brand.

The x530 looks good. I'm hoping to hook up both my new and the old one to the sound card.

Do you know if the x530 has enough cable length to go across a small room? If not can i get an extender?

I'm not sure what kind of connection they use to the amp, but I don't think you'll have a problem unless they're something strange.

You can get longer speaker wire, RCA extension cables, or 1/8" connection extension cables depending on how they connect to the sub.

thanks everyone. i'll prob be getting the x530.

I had one more question. I'm not sure if i was supposed to start a new thread for this..

From what i understand, THX certified speakers should have more power and have no distortion at higher volumes.

So at a regular level of volume is the performance of a THX certified speaker comparable to a regular speaker set?

Thanks

THX doesn't really mean a lot. There are THX speakers that aren't very good (especially the Computer speaker requirements) and there are very good speakers that aren't THX certified.

To get THX certified, a product is submitted to THX and the company pays THX to test the speakers/receiver and if it passes their requirements the company can slap a THX sticker on their box. If it fails they can work with THX to change the product to meet the requirements.

In short, THX computer speakers tend to be better than your average set of computer speakers, but that doesn't mean non-THX sets aren't good too.
