Help with sound problem

Sound always worked fine .. till now it seems. I run Win2K, and I have a soundblaster 16 isa.

It will only play the "left". If I slide it to right, nothing comes out. At first I thought it was because I had it plugged into my sound system which was using only one speaker, but I used my amp (which is only one plug, directly from sound card to amp, should play everything) and I still get the same problem. It's annoying because in some songs you only hear parts faintly where they're supposed to play loudly, cause they're played in stereo and on the "other side".. but why's it doing this? It never has before .. Where can I get drivers for SB16 under Win2K maybe I need an update?

What do you mean about the one connector from the sound card to the amp. It should be one connector to the sound card, and two into the amp. Then you will get stereo. But the amp doesn't compress the signals into one channel if you are only using one speaker.

"but wtf" what?

but wtf as in I still don't understand! Why would it do that? why does it work properly now? I still only have one speaker plugged into the stereo. I took the wire from the comp speakers, so it's that plugged into the comp and it goes left/right into Auxilary on the stereo, and just one speaker plugged into the stereo in the main left place. Now it's working fine and I'm getting all the sound .. but just before I wasn't?

Perhaps a bad cable connection? Other than that I got no other possible causes. It wouldn't be that expencive to get a pci card instead. Aopen mw 744 or sb pci 128 perhaps?

Nah, no money at all right now, and I'm perfectly satisfied with the SB16 if this isn't a hardware problem. Your probably right on it being a cable connection problem..
