Help with sound card detection in Win2K

I recently had a sound card get fried by lightning, so I went out and bought a Turtle Beach Montego II Quadzilla (Aureal 8830 chipset I believe) to replace it. Although I am a novice at hardware changing/upgrading, it looks like I put it in right. I put it in the same slot the old card came out of. Anyway, I went to install the driver (via the add new hardware thing), and at the end of the process I got an error saying "Unable to load driver. Check PnP OS settings in the BIOS setup and make sure your sound card is plugged in." And the computer won't detect the card at all. I've tried with the BIOS set with PNP off and on, both had the same result. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.

I had some very very strange problems with my Aureal based card and Win2k. Enough that I sold it (FS/FT forum baby) and bought a santa cruz, haven't looked back.
