I am taking an economics class, really an intro class. Its one of the few business courses I have actually taken. We have to write a paper on some aspect of the economy. Basically how the economy is going to be influenced by something. I chose to do it on how the economics of the computer industry will be influenced by the next generation of windows.

My only problem is doing the research. We can use internet sources and whatnot, but he also seems to like library research. I have no idea where to look for this kind of information. The university library seems to have very little in the way of tech books hehe. Has anyone done this kind of research before and what sources did you find to be helpful? Thanks

Google strings that include the terms "economics" and "empirical". This way you are more likely to find journal articles and research papers than op-ed pieces.

If you are talking about Windows, read in your texbook about Monopolies, and collusion of firms. How Windows has gained it's monopoly power is a bit of an economic mystery. Based on all the theories you are about to learn in class, it shouldn't have happened. Try googling "network economics" I've heard small bits about how these theories help explain a lot about it.

And also, economics is a dicipline that attempts to explain the world around you using testable theories which are then compared to empirical data.

Business is about making the green.

Good luck, feel free to PM me with any questions.
