Not enough information.

We need to know how many credits they've already earned a grade for (as opposed to gotten credit for, for example you don't receive a grade for AP Credit) and how many classes he plans on taking next semester, including their credit worth.

ok what quarter GPA would he need to raise the CGPA above 2.0?

That does not matter. GPA is calculated based on credits and grades. Not grades alone. For example: 3 credit class with an A = 3 x 4 or 12 points. You need to look at it taking points into consideration, not quarter/semester.

The movement of averages depend on the weights of their constituent values. You need to tell us how many credits your "friend" has taken in the past, and how many credits he will be taking next semester.

To answer this we would need to know the total number of credits you have already taken, along with the number of credits you plan to take next semester.

Honestly, if you can't even give us the information we need to do the math for you to figure it out, there's no way in hell you don't deserve a 1.83.

Just to help you out, here's the equation to figure this out.

X = 2.0 + (2.0-1.83)*(A/B)

A = the number of credits you have completed
B = the nubmer of credits you will take next semester
X = the average grade you need to get for a 2.0

Unless you supply A and B, we can't help you answer this question.

Jesus, just putting some, errr... any effort would get you more than a 1.83 unless you were competing with a rock for intellectual superiority.

and there's also no need to calculate what I need really. I'll just try my best and aim for the highest cloud.

wow he is really stupid.

Not only does he not know how to calculate his own GPA...he shrugs off the chance to learn something as simple as that. He doesn't even bother to try to figure out something as easy as this.

Just because you seem dense I'll say it again.

I don't think it could be any clearer. If you can't figure that out you probably shouldn't have graduated from the 8th grade.

i calculated it already. but I'm not sure if credit/no credit classes count, so I calculated it three different times, the lowest GPA being 2.2 and the highest being 2.32 which I will round up to 2.4. so I try just try my best to get at least a 2.5 and not slack off so I can get a 4.0. I know I can, I just didn't try hard enough before
