Help with Shuttle MN31 onboard video

The problem I'm having is this:

Works fine when using an AGP card, when using the onboard video, however, there is no display until windows XP loads and reaches the logon screen.

I already tried updating to the newest bios on shuttle's website, also the 'Init Display First' option in the bios has no effect.

Any ideas?

You didn't say what mobo you're using, if your system is otherwise good enough, stick with the AGP card. Almost all onboard video uses shared memory architecture, meaning it uses a block of system RAM for the video that is not available for running programs.

The motherboard is a Shuttle MN31, just noticed that I put it in the subject but not in my post.

It's an Nforce2 Chipset, which is better than any of the AGP cards I have laying around currently.

If you haven't tried this already, try plugging the monitor into the other of the two onboard VGA ports.

Yeah, first thing I tried actually before getting out an AGP card.

Hmm  My mom's rig has an MN31/N and the video does show up right from the start (POST screen and etc). What happens if you try tapping the Del key repeatedly when you know it's POSTing, does the display eventually come on and show the BIOS menus?
