I have a very tough beard. I have used most gels and shaving creams out on the market. The razor I use is the Gillette sensor excel. This has worked the best for me. I was wanting to know from you with tough beards, what shaving cream helps the most.

Shave in the shower.

Maybe apply some hair conditioner on your facial hair before shaving while in the shower.

I do shave in the shower. 10 minutes under hot water is the only thing that softens my beard now. I was hoping to find a shaving cream/gel that would do this without soaking in the shower.

edit for spelling..

How about that shaving cream dispenser that heats the cream?

I have one. It works OK but, it makes the shaving cream bad in about 2-3 days.

I guess an electric razor doesn't get close enough for you? Or irritates your skin?

Splashing hot water on your face before the shaving cream, what a freaking huge difference in the way it shaves.
Shaves much better with hardly any cuts/nicks.

They will not work on me. It just cuts some of the hair off an leaves me with red bumps under a poorly cut beard.

KY is odorless .. you were smelling something else :Q
You must have never used KY before. The odor really bothers me...
Years ago. I don't recall it having a strong odor. Maybe a hint of something medicinal like menthol, but rather less offensive than the latex smell of condom.

Try a can of the stuff I linked to and post your results.

Nivea makes great shaving cream & gel, I've been tried both and they're great. I personally prefer the cream, but the gel is also very nice. With a sharp Mach 3 blade, I get a very close shave and very little if any irritation
