Help with setting up video recording system

Here is the deal. I currently have two computers hooked up to the internet via a router (DSL). One is in the living room and the other is in the bedroom. What I want to do is this: Get digital cable in both rooms and set up the living room computer to record the shows I want to watch (like a Tivo). I would like to use an IR repeater on the PC to allow it to change the channel on the digital cable box and have my PC record the video. I would also like to be able to use the network connection and the computer in my bedroom to play back these shows on the bedroom computer, even though it doesn't need to be able to record.

I realize that I will need a good video capture card (standalone or integrated like the All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro), the IR repeater for my main PC, and the right software to make it work. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to go about this? Has anyone done this before? If so, how did it work? Thanks!
