For some reason I can't figure out how to setup my 'rules' aka Filters in Outlook 2000. I simply want to setup a filter so that all the emails sent to a list that I subscribe to will go into a certain folder. Suppose all the emails sent to the list are addressed To: mylist@here.com. My current 'rule' is setup with:

Apply this rule after message arrives
sent to mylist@here.com
move it to the mylist folder

But all this seems to do is copy the messages from the inbox into those folders. How do I get it to move, not copy, the messages?

Thanks,
Marlin

Make sure that you're not getting the messages twice (by turning off the rule). You may have two outlook.exe processes running...just close outlook and kill all the processes before starting outlook again (or reboot).

Make sure you haven't set the rule to move a copy of the email into the MYLIST folder. There is a setting to Move the complete message into the MYLIST folder.

Double check to make sure your not moving a copy.

I second what setaanbomb said. Looks like you checked the "move copy of message to folder" box.

I checked to make sure that the "move copy of message" box wasn't checked. It definitely says "move message". The problem I believe is because of two rules that I have setup.

One of them is one which moves all the messages sent to: mylist@here.com to a folder. The other is one that moves all the incoming mail received through a personality to another (different) folder. It seems that Outlook doesn't apply the rules in order from top to bottom, but rather at the same time. Thus, a copy of each message from the inbox appears in both folders.

I had no problem setting this up to work in Eudora so I don't know why it won't do it in Outlook. Damn Microsoft.

There's an option to have Outlook "Stop Processing More Rules" that can be checked when creating/editing a rule...
