Ok, we've got several computers, total of about 50 I think, and I have control of them all!!! BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Ok, the net connections we have right now are 28k dialups (yes, I'm getting DSL VERY VERY soon). I'm thinking the best way to do it would just be to have this machine run SetiQueue and have the rest proxy to it. My question is since this machine isn't connected 24/7, does SetiQueue dial the modem? Otherwise I think I have it made. :)

Oh, and for simplicity's sake I was just going to install the GUI version and have it run all the time no screensaver. Is that a BIG performance hit over the CLI with 3.03?

Hi Ben,

The beauty of SetiQ is that is will dial once a day at a time you designate. It actually does not dial, it asks for network connectivity and Windows does the dialing. Just like when you click on IE with the properites set to "Always dial my default connection."

If you are going to have it run all of the time I would not use the gui. The cli version will be faster! I run SetiDriver with the cli and it is VERY easy to setup. It has a place to put the proxy address and an easy way to adjust the Client Priority. If these machines are in use during the day, I'd set the Priority to "low." Then for the other 16, or so, hours each day you get full use of the CPU since it has no distractions. It also allows for you to hide the cli and SetiDriver runs in the Systray.

Good luck and Congrats!! :):D

Congratulations on the new job and the new fleet! :) FWIW, I leave SETI running even when I play UT or other 3D games and it doesn't seem to affect the performance, although exiting the game and seeing SETISpy estimating 288 hours to WU completion is amusing. I have 256Mb of RAM so there's plenty to go around. What is your new fleet like, do the computers have adequate RAM?

If you run SETILog with the 3.03 CLI you can put a /h switch in the shortcut to SETILog (put SETILog in the same folder as the CLI), and put the shortcut in the StartUp folder and it'll run the CLI hidden.
