Ok I am having a problem, I have the Direc PC dial return system. Now I am on a network with a total of 3 PC's all running XP. The comp I am on can connect without a problem, but all of the client computers can do nothing that involves that sat. I went into the device options and put a check in the "I want to share this internet connection." That won't work, but I do have an option to use only the modem and bypass the sat all together and when I do that it will work. Also what is getting me is I can ping out to like yahoo and google but I can't load the web pages. I am just wondering if there is a lil switch or something I am missing. Please help I have been working on this for three days and I also talked to tech support for about 2 hours and nothing helped so any ideas you have will be appreciated.

EDIT: Right now I am using the 4.0.0.36. I tired to upgrade to the 4.0.0.40 but it would lock up any time I tried.

Turn on ICS, reboot, and then open up a command.com and post the results of an "ipconfig /all" and a "route print". And get the results for one of the clients as well (no ICS).

Actually, hang on. Does the thing show up as two network connections (one for the modem and one for the satellite)? If it does, make sure you turn on ICS for both connections and then do the above. If it's a "dial return" system, I would imagine (although I've never used one) that there would be one permanent like network connection for the satellite and a dial-up thingie for the modem. Both need to have ICS on. Make sure you go into the network and dial-up properties section (or whatever it's called in XP, that's what it is in 2K) and check.

Even if you get ICS on for both devices, you will probably have to adjust some things on the other machines to get it to work, that's why I'm asking for the data from the top.

Ok, looks more like the client settings are messed up rather than ICS.

Try setting the client machine to a fixed IP adddress (such as 192.168.0.5). subnet mask to 255.255.255.0, default gateway to 192.168.0.1, and set the DNS servers to 198.77.116.8 and 198.77.116.12 (the ones assigned by DirectPC). And disable DHCP and auto-config.

That should work - I think. If not, re-get the info for the client machine after making those changes.

And try pinging your machines and then ping some outside sites. Make sure they are pingable first (try on the computer with the direct sat. connection first). If it works, post that up. If not, post the error message (different errors mean different things).
