Help with SATA installation

I have an FX43G Shuttle system and want to use a couple 80 GB SATA drives in it. Problem is, I can't seem to get anything (the SATA/RAID setup, the BIOS, the Win XP setup disc) to recognize them.

This is the first time I've worked with SATA for primary drives running off the mobo (vs. a PCI card). I searched the BIOS and couldn't find anything that enables or disables SATA, so I tried the SATA/RAID setup (have to press Tab during boot) but it says there's no drive on either channel. And the Win XP install stops because there're no drives (if I hit F6 and use the driver floppy, it still gives me the "can't install b/c of no hard disks" error).

I've tried all of that using the special SATA-power-adapters and the regular old 4-pin power connectors, neither setup got the drives detected. The HDs are brand new, so I doubt they're dead...

I must be missing something critical. Anyone have an idea?

The only other drive in there is an DVD-R drive on IDE1. Will try it with just one SATA plugged in...

EDIT: Yeah, that didn't change anything.

Nothing in AwardBIOS deals with RAID or SATA. And the VIA SATA RAID BIOS doesn't detect the HD(s) (and, because of this, doesn't allow me to change any settings).

even under the IDE settings, there is nothing for SATA? seems kinda strange for a board that has SATA ports not to have anything the BIOS to enable/disable them...

Nope, nothing. I thought it was kind of weird, but this is the first mobo I've ever used that had SATA built in.

look under your options in integrated peripherals...there is an option to enable/disable your SATA ports there...at least that what is says in page 59 of the the user manual I googled for your mother board...
