Hello,

I am trying to replace the CPU fan on my old HP Pavilion 6355. There appear to be 4 tabs that hold it in but I can't seem to get it to release the fan. HP could not provide any help on this except to take it to an authorized HP repair center. Any help or instructions anyone may provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Often the tabs are part of a snap on retainer system that aren't paro of the fan, itself. Can you see any mounting holes at the corners fan?

The assembly may be removable by CAREFULLY lifting a one or more of the tabs to release it from the CPU, and you may find the fan is a conventional rectangular part that you can replace from an electronics supply house or computer parts place.

You should have some heatsink compound in case the original heatsink material is old, dried out or otherwise not usable (or they were too cheap to use any in the first place).

Hope that helps. :)
