Help With Remote Desktop

I am trying to establish a remote desktop link between my home computer and my work computer. I am using XP pro on both machines and I have enable remote desktop access on both machines. I am trying establish a remote desktop web connection, but cannot get it to work.

For example: If I am trying to connect to my home computer from work what would I use for the "name" of the computer/server?

I tried my home IP address but no luck.

Any help or a point in the right direction would be great.

Is there a firewall or router on your home computer that would prevent you from connecting to it? If so, disable the software firewall. If you have a router, you need to forward an external port to the internal port that Remote Desktop listens on, which is 3389.

I've tried connecting with the Remote Desktop web connection but couldn't get it to work so I just use the client. Try that out to see if it works. Start > Run > mstsc or Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communication > Remote Desktop Connection.

The name of the computer/server would be whatever your IP address is and ":3389". For example. 123.456.789.000:3389. If you have a router, substitute whatever port you've opened for Remote Desktop.

Hope this helps.
