Will be using TWC as an isp and have the freedom to pick any hardware I will need for remote access. I am looking for options that do not require monthly fees, or yearly fees. My exact use will be to remote into my network to be able to access my files, and media, etc.

How is the best way to proceed?

What does your other end look like? Can you do hardware VPN routers at both ends? If so, no service needed (other than maybe a DDNS service depending on if you can get a static or it is a dynamic IP from TWC). If you are working with non-fixed or non-accessible networking gear on the remote end, then you'll have to go with some kind of a service.

Not sure what there is in the way of cheap/free out there. Odds are excellent anything cheap/free is also going to be heavily limited in terms of speed (so don't expect "media" access to mean streaming video while away from home).

I opted to monthly pay for a Modem/Phone Interface only 9No Router or Wireless).

As a result I can use my own Wireless Router and any other devices as needed.

I am renting the Modem since the external system in my neck in the wood is terrible.
Renting nothing from them will end up with No free on site support. One visit will cost more than the yearly rental.

So... you will have to talk to TWC in your geographical area and see where you stand in such cases.

are you looking to just copy stuff back and forth to home, or a streaming type setup?
