Help with recording on my computer??

Some time ago I built myself a new system (specified below). On this new system, I used the same Monster MX400 sound card that i'd been using before. When I tried to record stuff, it gets really garbled and distorted; on my old system it recorded just fine. I've already checked the drivers, dba setting, if the mic was plugged in correctly, and all hardware settings in windows. Im using the default cheap old sound recorder in windows, but it used to work great before but now it doesnt. is this a hardware conflict with my Asus a7v133? I've reinstalled many times, but nothings changing.. the only difference i recall is that before i used to use directx 7.0, and now i'm on directx 8.0.. can anyone PLEASE help me out here? Thanks in advance!

BTW, when I dont record and just talk through the mic., i can hear everything just fine and clear through my speakers.. it's only when I play anything back that it comes out garbled.
