Help with ram timings, overclocking e6600

Hello everyone,

i have p5b deluxe wifi, e6600 and corsair TWIN2X1024A-6400 5-5-5-12 xms2 ram.

I overclock my e6600 to 3.4ghz @ 1.42v, make my ram at 1:1 ratio, working frequency something about 750 mhz and timings 4-4-4-12.

working with memory intesive soft like video editing, soft hangs up and i get errors,
last time i got unable to read memory...

can anyone suggest me what to do with my memory? as i run my mem below stock speed, i keep stock voltage, maybe i should do something about timings? how?
or i should pump up the mhz on my ram to about 950 mhz (next step from 750) and give voltage 2.2 or similar?

any advise appreciated.

Why don't you start with rated timings first, make sure its stable and use a memory testing software like memtest86. After that, change 1 timing at a time while making sure it remains stable and passes any software testing. Making so many changes at once makes it difficult to find the source of the failure.

First of all....Do you know with certainty if your Cpu is already stable? I ask you this because how on earth you are already using an overclocked system without even knowing if it's stable or not....
Right now, I'm at work so I can't write a guide for you...but I'll help you when I get home.

I'm thinking about writing a guide for all P5B deluxe users who aim to OC their systems since many, many of you are newbies....

Change all of the 4's to 5's, like they're supposed to be, and see if you're then stable.

okay then... seems like prime95 fails even at stock speeds, what should i do? i run blen test and it fails...should try changin power supply? i have kind of cheap one, qtek 500w...

I have been googling for a while now on overclocking and i am only now registering and trying to help out others with their issues as i have overcame most of mine.

Now, this is just out of shear curiosity but when you say "run my mem below stock" do you mean that you run it at 4,4,4 instead of 5,5,5? If this is the case then overclocking is something you should read up a little more on as the lower the number the faster the memory is. If you are getting memory errors its most likely due to the fact you have gone too far trying to clock it. Change it to its rated latency's etc and that should help. Also find out what voltage it is rated at and run it maybe 0.1 or 0.2v above that. Mine was tested between 2.1 and 2.2 so i just run it at 2.2 as thats pleanty.

I managed to clock my E6600 to 3.6 and it was as solid as a rock. I have backed it off to just over 3.3 now as i don't have adequate cooling but i ran Prime95 in torture mode for 9 hours and got no errors or warnings so things are looking good.

Are you using stock cooling - average for OCing
Case cooling - adequate?

Change FSB in small increments say 10 at a time
Leave memory at 5 5 5 12 6 42 10 10 10 10
Reboot and test mem using SP2004
Keep testing (it will take you at least 4-5 days to really find the sweet spot)
Go through the voltages and see if you need to increase cpu , FSB memory, NB etc - again in 1 increment at a time - start with cpu and memory voltages first
At the first sign of trouble loosen memory timings 5 5 5 15 6 2 10 11 10 11 or something like that and so on

pci-e -111 (otherwise I get 1X) - below say 440 FSB try 110.
cannot think of anythingelse right now.
When you get a good setting save to OC profile.
