mosdef, I agree with Russ (wow, shocker there).
Given your current situation, it's going to be very tough to build up the volume and word of mouth required to be successful building/repairing PC's. Add to that the high rate of return calls on tech support stuff, and you'll quickly get burried.
I think your best bet is to take some networking classes or otherwise study up on them, and target small businesses with 5-15 PC's for network setups. Larger companies tend to go with larger companies for their networking needs or have the staff in-house.
From your statements, I gather that you might be underestimating networking a little in terms of difficulty. Yes, it's easy to connect a few computers in a simple TCP/IP network over ethernet, but there's A LOT more that's gonna come into play... mixed platforms, performance monitoring, network segmenting, bridging etc etc. It's a fun field though, and can be very lucrative.
I can provide you with lots of small business info if you want, but you'll have to determine for yourself what you want your focus to be. Don't aim at a sketchy idea like " I want to do something like this or this or this". You have to narrow it down specifically to what you want to do, and how you see yourself getting there. Once you do that, you can find people with the info to help you fill in the steps.
