Hi, I just replaced the hard drive on my HP Pavilion a645c and I'm trying to install XP but when I'm formating the partition once it starts to copy the files i get an error, a bsod saying something went wrong and that i could disable memory shadowing to fix it. On the initial boot up screen it says the bios is shadowing but there is no option in the bios to disable it. I have tried with 3 different installation cd's with the same results.

could anyone please tell me what i need to do?

there has to be something about caching the memory, video, etc in the bios, if not then the bios is suspect.

The Bios is Phoenix Award Bios, Core Version 6.0 Bios Revision 3.03

I have checked and re-checked and there is no option to turn of the shadowing

What's the BODS message?

Problem with OEM BIOS is that they are so toned down that most options are removed.
An alternative is to have another computer install Windows XP. At the first reboot turn the computer off and swap the HDD back to yours.
