System specs:

E6600 C2D / Tuniq Tower 120
Asus P5B Deluxe MB
2 GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 @820 Mhz
eVGA 7900GT KO 512 MB Video Card
Antec 480W True Power PSU

2.952 Ghz is as far as I can get without BSODing.

Here are my BIOS settings:

CPU = 9 x 328 = 2952

PCI-E Freq. = 100 Mhz
PCI Freq. = 33.33 Mhz

vDIMM = 2.15 volts
CPU vCore = 1.35 volts

FSB Termination Voltage = Auto
NB vCore = Auto
SB vCore = Auto
ICH Chipset Voltage = Auto

Spread Spectrum disabled

Memory Timings = 5-5-5-12
TRFC = 42
TRRD = 10

I'm running Windows XP Professional x64. This is the highest speed I am Prime stable. What is wrong with my setup? Are my voltages correct?

Any suggestions please?

Thanks.

Just going from my own experience with my E6400 and P5B-E, there was a significant discrepency between the BIOS vcore reading and from say a reading on CPU-Z. I believe this is called "vdroop", apparently it is an important factor to consider on the P5B series. In the end to reach my 3.2Ghz I had to set my vcore within the bios to ~4.25V, though CPU-Z says im at 1.375V. If that doesn't help I'd suggest reading the following thread:

Why is the RAM @ 820mzh?

Try and use a 1:1 ratio while you are testing for your target speed (makes things easier)

Also set your timings as advertised.

Set the RAM 700mhz and the FSB to 350 (3.15ghz)
Set your CPU Vcore to 1.4V

I set it to 4:5 because that RAM should be able to handle 410 Mhz easily. As for the timings, I made them loose to take them out of the equation. I want to see how far my processor can go... surely faster than 2.9...

I'll try 1.4v and 350 FSB.

change your ram frequency to 1:1 to isolate your cpu from your mem.

with the vdroop thing.... all asus boards have this nasty habit of drooping the vcore at 100% load.

for instance, i had to set 1.64 to get 1.56 load!!! but there are mods to combat this problem.

also, change those auto voltages to 1.4, 1.25, 1.6, and 1.057 respectively if you still have problems after you increase the vcore.

Okay, first I upped the vCore to 1.4v and FSB to 350. It booted into Windows just fine, but BSOD'd several seconds into Prime.

I rebooted and changed the auto voltages to 1.4, 1.25, 1.6, and 1.057. It then BSOD's within seconds of booting into Windows, so I set them back to Auto.

I booted into my Windows XP 32-bit partition with the 1.4 vCore and 350 FSB and so far it's been stable through one round of tests with Large FFTs.

What could be wrong with my 64-bit partition? The BSODs give me a 0x000... 7f error and mentions changing video adapters. I updated my video driver to the latest 64 bit driver, but that didn't change anything.

Any suggestions as to why everything's fine in 32-bit but not 64-bit?

that's very strange that those voltage settings gave you a BSOD instantly. the voltage settings i gave you were used for orthos blend test at 8 x 463 for over 11 hours.

anyway.... no idea why things work in 32 bit but not 64...

try to do dual spi32M as well to test for mem stability

Could it be my PSU? It's two years old. Maybe the amps supplied aren't enough.

I've asked about the True Power before and some people on here told me to get something newer. There seems to be a lot of Enermax and Seasonic fans in this forum. Two years ago when I bought the True Power, Antec was the preferred PSU.

I've ran Memtest before, error free.

Set your disabled/enabled settings to the way this guy has his set up. Also, give me the full part number on your ram. Some corsair RAM use promos (sp?) chips (like mine, only can pull 850 Mhz no matter what).

your settings should looks something like this:

ram divider 1:1 (first option in RAM speed menu)
Volts: 2.15 timings 5-5-5-12-42-10
cpu at 1.4375V

Pci 33.33Mhz 100

not sure about the sb and nb voltages, I just up them one just incase.
