Basically...my specs are below but Ill get a little more detailed here...
Im really hoping someone can help me out as I cant seem to get my Xeon x3350 to overclock for spit! My motherboard is exactly a DFI LANParty LT X38-T2R with a Intel Quad Xeon x3350. RAM is some budget-y OCZ Gold DDR2 800 with 5-5-5-18 timings...motherboard is running them at 6-6-6-18 at a 5:6 FSB ratio at 2T.
My basic question is this...how the hell do I overclock this thing? I know the BASICS about FSB x multiplier thing...but how high can I set the FSB with my RAM? My understanding is that my RAM being DDR2 800 means that my RAM is like 400mhz x 2 cause of dual channel, at least this was the case back in the day of DDR1, no? If so I should be able to push the RAM to 400mhz with the multiplier at 8x (cant change this with the Xeon...I think I can get 8.5x using some option in the BIOS)...so running my CPU at these settings makes my CPU 3.2ghz...right?
Problem is is that no matter what I do my CPU is hardly stable at anything past 2.7ghz...even with 1.4v pumping into it. DFI HAS THE MOST COMPLEX BIOS IVE EVER SEEN!!! I knew this going into it as reviews have said this, but damn, I got the motherboard and the x3350 for $200...who can say no to an awesome deal like this! (Thanks MaxSe - awesome seller, many a item bought through him!!!)...
Anyone have this motherboard that can tell me what options need to be turned on or off? I just need help with all this mumbo jumbo...I know my system can handle it all no problem, I mean, Ive got a solid 1000watt PSU, XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 heatsink with high RPM/flow fan, badass case with awesome cooling (3x120mm intake, 2x120 & 2x140mm exhaust)...cooling and power no issue!
Just all these damn BIOS options...I feel like Im deactivating/activating that one little SOB feature thats bringing me down...I mean, I know this is a good motherboard for overclocking, and I know that the x3350 can overclock well, I mean, maybe not to like 4ghz+ but I hardly see 3.2ghz being an issue (would love to go higher, but itll do).
Ive looked online and there are a few guides explaining features and options of the BIOS for overclocking, but just to set RAM timings theres like 20 different things...many more for CPU and chipset, no guide covers the indepthness of the DFI BIOS...
If anyone can help me figure all this out it would be greatly appreciated
