Hi, I've recently had problems with my 'Nvidia TNT' video card crashing any full screen applications/games such as 'Age of Empires' or 'Counter-Strike.' Here is what happens:

Scenario:
I enter the game (using game as example because this is how I discovered problem), and I am allowed to spectate or watch someone else play or just sit there. Once I try doing something such as join or build something (Age of Empires), the game crashes with no error message or anything. Friend's of mine have told me that I need to unstall the new drivers ... which I did. They also tell me to install OpenGl which I did. Nothing worked. I got one of the games ot let me play for say ... 5 minutes but then it came up with an error or caused me to enter spectator because of the lag it was causing. This lag is basically me skipping around. I have cable and I get pings of 90MS and packetloss of around 0.0 and 0.1 with a split connection. I don't know what to do =(.

Here are the spec(s) on my PC:
450 mhZ P3 processor
384 MB of RAM
12.33 GB HD
52x CD-ROM
16x Burner
Floppy Drive
Nvidia TNT Video Card
NIC card
56k Modem

Some of those are irrelevant but I truthfully am puzzled by this. Any help is much appreciated. Thx

did it just stop working all of a sudden, or did you install new drivers or something then it stopped working?
did those games run fine before?

easiest solution maybe to install different driver versions until it works.

more extreme solution maybe to reformat.

even more extreme solution is to upgrade that tnt (you can probably find something under $50 that is a lot faster than a TNT)

I had a problem pretty similar to that about 6 months ago on a brand new computer. Every 3D application I ran crashed after 5-10 seconds. It turned out to be a bad stick of memory. I just switched another stick in and it worked fine. I would try running your computer with just one of the sticks. If it still doesnt work then try just the other stick. Hope this helps.

I haven't tried the memory stick-switching but before this EVERYTHING worked fine.

I did not install or touch anything before this started happening.
Everything worked fine before this.

I don't wanna reformat due to some programs I do not have the disc to anymore =/
I may have to get a new vid. card but this card is directly attached to the mobo along with a fan, etc... so I would need to buy another. Also, this is running on an AGP slot.

One stick of memory is 128 mb (brand = ??) and the other is 256mb PNY.

Will try memory soon... hopefully it works.

Sorry to keep posting in my own thread but I tried the memory issue. I removed my 128 MB stick (was first originally in PC) and put the 256 MB stick in the 128 slot. The screen came up in 600x800x16. So I removed the 256 mb stick and put in the 128 mb stick and got same thing. I went through safe mode and everything with both chips and then rebooted but none of the games/programs worked. So I put both back in and came up with my 1152 resolution and everything. So what now? =/

1. I used to have that problem with my Creative Riva TNT PCI 16MB. It turned out that the video card was awfully hot. Almost burn my hand just touching the back of video card, right under the TNT processor. I replaced the original heat sink with a big one on the voltage regulator (a rectangular thumb nail size near the edge of the card). I also put a 486 fan on the chipset heatsink (perfectly fit). When Nvidia made TNT chipset, their technology was not mature, thus it was running very hot (TNT2 is much better.) You need to leave an empty slot next to this video card

2. Also don't overclock your video card as well as CPU.

3. Try to use Detonator 6.5. Seems to be very stable with TNT chipset. (New drivers are designed for new chipsets: GF, GF2, GF3, GF4, they don't have any effect with this old chipset)

I havent overclocked anything, ATM. I downloaded the recent Detonator 9x driver for the TNT but it still crashes. I deleted Norton AntiVirus and the Norton Systemworks except for personal firewall. No luck. This card is actually onboard video, so I have found out, and so I have no clue where it is. Heh =(

I suspect that the video card is overheating. Try to put a heat sink and fan on the graphic processor and run it with the case open.
Also, try to run it with Detonator 6.5

Sorry, text I guess didn't show... was writing in a hurry at school. Card is not overheating ... it is onboard video. Cover has been off for a while. I got into BIO, gave me 3 options. PCI or AGP , 64 or 256 memory, and something about pallettes (?). I am running the LATEST Detonator device that I could find for the TNT. If you suggest different, then IM me or something. Aim is DBZxGokuh (old name) .

I had exactly the same problem with my old Voodoo3 3000 PCI. My games would freeze after a few seconds. It turned out that the card was VERY hot and malfuctioning... i got a GF2MX 400, no problems so far...

I do not believe my 'card' is hot or malfunctioning though. It is onboard video, there is not an actual 'Riva TNT' CARD. It is just onboard video. I've been running it without the case on and I have been monitoring the heat from the PC. Nothing is overheating (I don't think).
