Ok, I'm using RedHat 8.0... I'm a Linux newbie.

Here's my problem. I have a decent monitor that runs 1024x768 @ 85 Hz in Windows... but in Linux it's only at 60 Hz at that resolution, and at any resolution for that matter. So I thought maybe getting the latest drivers from nVidia would help.

nVidia has Linux drivers on their site, but I don't know which ones I need. I think I'm using the latest kernel, cause I downloaded and installed the updates to RH8, and I rebooted, but when I click on that update icon, I still get this message...
"Your system is currently running kernel-2.4.18-14, but the newest installed kernel is kernel-2.4.18-18.8.0. It is recommended that you reboot at the first opportunity to test this new kernel."
I thought I downloaded and installed that newest kernel. But that message tells me I'm not. I boot from a boot disk... do I need to make a new boot disk to boot the new kernel????
Ok, that's part of the problem... the other part of the problem with getting nVidia drivers is I don't know which ones I need... do I get the ones for the i686 architecture? Or the ones for the Athlon architecture since I'm running an Athlon XP1700?

(pulling hair out)
