Help with Null Spaces and Vector spaces...

I'm taking a linear algebra class, i've read the book twice and i still don't get what they are and how they are important...could anyone just expain it to be in lamens terms...

The null space is the set of all vectors that map to zero under a linear transformation.

Edit: So if you have a transformation T(x,y)=(x-3,y-4) then the vector (3,4) is the null space of that transformation because T(3,4) = 0.

Well, i guess differential equations because we are using it to solve differential equations...but linear algebra mixed with differential eq is confusing the heck out of me.
 
Row spaces and columns spaces are just vector spaces generated by the rows and columns of some matrix that performs a linear transformation.
