Help with new system

I am trying to put together a new system with a Soyo SY-6IWM/L motherboard & a PIII-500. I know the processor and RAM are good, but when I fire it up, I get no video out to the monitor. A start-up disc in the floppy is not engaged either. As far as I can tell all the jumpers are set correctly. This is driving me crazy!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is supposed to be an x-mas present for my dad. Thanks

hmm, just a question that might help diagnose this problem...
your computer starts... no video and not any light in floppy?

1) Is the hard drive running (feel for any kind of vibration)
2) any POST error beeps?

i had my computer not give any video output and gave me one long beep and 3 short beeps: basically meaning that my video card wasn't found...

There is a light coming put of the floppy, the disc just isn't being engaged. I get no beeps at all. The Soyo FAQs says that this is due to the CPU not being seated or the motherboard being grounded. The CPU sure looks seated to me. I took the board out of the case and turned it on and still no beeps. It appears that there is no hard drive activity at all, but the power is there. Thanks again.

1) If the floppy light is on constantly after powering up the computer, then you have one of the cables flipped.

but I don't think thats the main problem,

2) you should try taking out the CPU and reseating it and try again

3) if that doesn't work, then IMO, you got a fried mobo 🙁
