Hi all, im posting provisional specs before i buy to see if anyone has any advice/suggestions. Any help would be appreciated.

Anyway:

Athlon XP 1900+ - £165.70
Soltek SL-75DRV4 - £84.46
Crucial PC2100 512 meg - £110.74
VisionTek Geforce 4 Ti 4600 - £295.38
Maxtor D740X 60 gig - £90.67
SoundBlaster Audigy Player - £55.00
Samsung 96P 19 Inch - £182.00
Generic Floppy - £7.54
Liteon LTD-163-02VH 16x Dvd - £45.82
Liteon LTR-24102B 24X 10X 40X - £69.17
Antec Corporation PP303XP Case with 300w psu - £47.14
ThermoEngine V60-4210 Heatsink/Fan - £23.84
Thermaltake 80mm CaseFan - £7.99

Total £1185.45 or roughly $1600 (i think)

I was gonna get an Epox 8KH+ but after seeing the issues with Geforce 4's im put off that, and anyway, the solteks purple!

. I was also thinking about a P4 1.6a (like most people ;)) but i dont know so much about P4 mobo's. I'd also like one of the WD drives with 8meg buffer but id never use all that space and ive yet to see one here in England.

The system would mainly be used for gaming and internet and college work (Visual Basic and HTML).

Also, how far could i expect to overclock the XP1900 with a Thermoengine V60-4210? I know it wont be very far.

Thanks in advance.....

You might want to consider getting a KT333 board. Although the performance is only slightly faster than the KT266a it's just about the same price. Also you might want to consider getting KingMax pc2700 memory. It's actually cheaper than crucial. Not to mention faster.

Everything else looks good.

Nice system, but I would go with a slightly cheaper video card and save some cash. The Ti4400 might be a more cost effective choice. There is nothing wrong with buying that kind of hardware if you have the money though. =)

Epox has a very good KT333 board coming out - 8K3A (GF4 does fit)

You can get Kingmax memory at newegg, googlegear, and some other popular places.

Eh, I'd hold off on KT333. ViA has a habit of making revisions of their first boards...i.e. KT133 -> KT133a, KT266 -> KT266a.

Actually, VIA stated (can't find my source, but I bet if you search, you can ;) ) that the KT333 version they released was the "a" revision, as the original had problems. ;) I personally beleive that there is not much the KT333 has over the KT266 right now. Performance is not that much better (when using the same memory speed) And is only marginally better when utilizing DDR333. I would stick with the soltek, and later on move to the KT400. ;)
