I just got my parts from my new computer yesterday from newegg, put it all together last night, now i'm working on setting up software and the like. I just tried to get my sound/speakers going, and I'm having some problems. I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe (ver 2.0) and Logitech Z-560 speakers. As per the motherboard manual, I plugged the front speaker cable into the standard audio out port on the back of the motherboard (green to green) and the rear speaker cable into the surround port. Then, I configured the speakers through the nvidia nforce software, and I'm only getting sound through the surround speakers. I've confirmed that it's not a problem with the speakers by plugging the front speaker cable into the rear port, and it seems that the normal speaker output isn't working properly. Has anyone else had this same problem? Is there some known way to fix this? Or is the speaker output on my motherboard busted?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I'd double check that you DID set it up right with the software. Make sure Windows thinks that you have surround speakers and not just 2, double check the settings.

tried that...double checked about 10 times. even if it WAS set to only 2 speakers...wouldn't the sound be coming out of the front output, not the rear output? i'm getting sound for the rear, but not for the front.

jstultz,
This is off your topic but what chip did you put on that board? I'm getting ready to build and that is the board I'm buying from NewEgg. Also, did they treat you right?

I have that board, I use an athlonXP 1700+ (1466mHz) JIUHB and have it at 11.5x206 (2369mHz). Newegg is one of the best online stores around:)

as for your sound problem, try the other audio ports, and make sure the digital settings are off if your speakers are analog

I've got a 2800+...newegg was great. ordered the parts on sunday, selected rush processing ($2.99 on a ~$2000 purchase....no way I'm not getting that), it shipped out monday. got the monitor and speakers on wednesday and the rest on thursday.

and yeah, i've tried all the different audio ports on the back, and it seems that the main port is the only one not working. this is really starting to be a bummer...I really want that to work, and if it's a problem with the motherboard, I REALLY don't want to have to take it all apart and RMA it. i've been waiting a long time for this computer.

i'm going to try downloading new drivers for the soundstorm processor and see if that helps anything.

Can't answer the first question, but I can say NewEgg has been awesome every time I've ordered from them. For example, I ordered a new case last week at about 4:30 PM (Eastern) and it was processed and out the door that day! They generally have low (or in some cases free) shipping charges and the FedEx Saver Shipping takes a maximum of three days, usually two. The only other online retailer I'd recommend as highly is GoogleGear.com, since they have free 2-day shipping and generally similar prices.

Fixed it. The problem was, when I was installing all the hardware, I attached the front output for the speakers, and later disconnected it. What I forgot when I disconnected it was that the connector for it on the motherboard originally had two jumpers on it; one connecting L+ and L-, and one connecting R+ and R-. After I put those jumpers back on, the output worked fine.
