Arrrrgh! I'm trying to help my brother in law with his new rig. I've tried all the usual troubleshooting steps, we even RMA's the first board! Here's the prob. The board posts fine, sees all attached devices. When windows loads, all drives (IDE) are using MS-DOS compatability mode and the CD's are non existent. The latest call to MSI was they suggested to send the board, cpu, mem and hard drive to them to figure it out. Not really an option at this point. We left out the modem, sound, etc tried different ram configurations (1 gig DDR, 512MB, DDR etc) tried swapping IDE devices and checking all slave/master jumpers etc. This is the second identical mobo. He even went out and bought a new Maxtor drive, but still windows is using MS-DOS compat mode, and Windows reports a boot sector virus.
What could be the problem? What am I missing? This should be a screaming rig when running.
