Help with new HDD

My primary drive is a WD 80gig (running XP Pro) and my secondary drive was a slow WD 8.4 gig. Both are formatted NTFS. They ran just fine on an MSI motherboard and a PIII 500.

I was given a new Maxtor 80gig drive (which was formatted NTFS, containing ~15gig of data). I thought that I could just set the appropriate master / slave jumpers and be done with it, but the box won't even boot with the new drive. I tried cable select on both drives, but that didn't work -- I don't think that my mobo supports it.

I've exhausted all of my ideas, and now I'm turning to this board. All ideas appreciated!!

Thanks.

Is the BOIS detecting the drives? Try the auto setting in hard drive detection in the BIOS and see what happens.

What sid said is probably right, you might have the ide cables switched or something. There really is no other reason it shouldnt boot up with it if it works on another system. It has to be IDE cables or a bios setting.

If the Maxtor is on it's own channel not sharing with anything else the jumper may have to be select to single.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The Maxtor is on a shared cable with the WD. I'm pretty sure that the IDE cable isn't turned around (unless for some reason it's supposed to be different from the WD?).
