Help with new CPU HSF spindown

Hi everybody!

Last friday I finally get my new components to "upgrade" my faulty motherboard/cpu combo (old AthlonXP2000+ and Asus A7V8X-X). I'm on a somewhat extreme budget so I opted for the new Sempron64 2800+ paired up with an MSI K8N Neo Platinum board.

The upgrade process went well, hadware and software installations were easy and fast.

After installing all programs I decided to put in an MSI utility called CoreCenter that monitors cpu/sys/northbridge temps and fans, and also allows for easy overclocking from within windows. All went ok but I noted an extrange behaviour. At system startup my CPU HSF spins at about 2800rpm but at some point (even while gaming) it spins down to about 1000rpm and CoreCenter starts beeping indicating CPU HSF is under recommended speeds. My CPU doesn't support Cool'n'Quiet and when HSF spins down it never recovers until I reset the machine....

Do you have any advice? Is the HSF? some settings? my motherboard?

Any help will be appreciated...

Yeah, the problem is most likely somethig to do with the CoreCenter program overriding bios fan settings. Don' use that program. Overclocking from within windows is only reconmended if their i some bios limitations. You have a board with a great bios. Learn how to use it and overclock from their, not from within windows.

ok, but wich program do you recommend me for control HSF speeds and CPU temps?

I'm pretty sure that Speedfan can do that for you.

Click on the the CORE CENTER txt at top, then select USER mode then slide the fan speed slider to high speed, then press apply.

Fan speed should stay at max speed now.

Thanks Avalon, SpeedFan downloading...
