Help with new computer

I just built a new computer system, and i'm having some trouble with getting it to work. I think i hooked everything up correctly, and when i hit the power switch, the computer seems to turn on (the fan starts running, the 3.5 drive sounds like it's working). However, the monitor does not seem to recognize the computer, it stays in "power saving" mode as if the computer were turned off or not connected at all. I see the numlock/capslock lights flash briefly, so i think the keyboard is getting recognized, but the USB mouse does not turn on either. What could be causing the monitor to not be detected?

Either the Ram is not properly seated, or the hard drive ide cable is on backwards somewhere....These instances can result in the problem you have, so make sure your pin 1's match up and everything is seated well.

Power down, and try reseating your video card. Most motherboards will give a beep code if it is not well seated, but maybe not.
