I built my first computer this weekend with the following specs:

i5 2500k
Asus P8P67 Pro
8 GB G.Skill Ram
GTX 570
Coolmaster Hyper 212 Plus

From an old computer I took the hard drive and PSU.

The PSU is a Coolmax 120 MM NW-650B.

Hooking it up, I initially got power in the fans, graphics card, and HDD. It would false boot, but boot up on the second try. The problem was I got no picture. So I slept on it and realized I hadn't plugged in the 8 pin CPU power cable. I went to plug that in and now I have no power. There is a small green light that lights up when I flip the switch on the power supply, but the fans, graphics card, and HDD don't do a thing. I've taken the power supply out, reinstalled it, and checked the cables a million times. Still nothing.

Last night I took the PSU out and installed it in my old computer. I did not reinstall the graphics card and HDD, just wanted to test the power. It no longer boots either.

So how does it look? Do I have a dead PSU? Or could both motherboards possibly be bad?

I'd bet on a bad PSU before two dead motherboards.

You can use a paperclip between the green wire and one of the black wires in the 20/24 pin connector for a quick test to see if the PSU is dead.

why would you think you had 2 dead mobo's if you know that your old pc wouldn't work with that same psu ?

Why not pull the psu from your old pc .. and see if you can get get a post in your new rig ?

I bought a new PSU and installed it. Now everything is working except I get a Stop STOP 0x0000007B error.

This sounds like an issue with the drive you are booting from.

Try running some diagnostics against the hard drive to see if there are errors with it...

Also .. is this a sata drive? do you need to load a driver as part of the new windows install ?

Doublecheck the bios settings relating to the driver to ensure they are correct.. (Raid vs non-raid, AHCI , Boot order, etc..)
