Hello,

I just put together my new build. The problem is as soon as I try and install the nvidia geforce display drivers, my lcd stops responding or begins flickering. I can boot up in safe mode and the lcd is fine. I have updated the bios and tried re-installing windows xp pro several times but nothing seems to be helping. Has anyone else seen this type of problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Specs:
A8n-e motherboard
evga geforce 7800 GT CO
samsung 740b
2 gigs of ocz ram

1) is it WinXP Pro with Service Pack 2?

2) have you got the video card's direct power cable hooked up?

3) what power supply is running the show there, what brand & model

4) did you install the motherboard driver package and reboot before attempting to install the video drivers? (yes = good, this is the proper order).

First thanks for the reply.

1. Yes it is winXP Pro with service pack 2
2. I did hook up the power to the video card
3. My power supply is ANTEC Truepower 480
4. When I re-installed winxp the second time the first thing I did was upgrade the mobo drivers, then I updated the bios and then attempted to update the display drivers

I'm not sure where to go from here testing wise. Could the video card be faulty?? Eventhough it works in safe mode.

Maybe it's trying to force an unworkable refresh rate on the LCD. If you have a decent CRT monitor around, try this:

1) shut the system down and unplug it. Unplug the monitor's power and unplug its video cable from the system.

2) plug in your CRT, using a DVI-to-VGA adapter if necessary, then power up the monitor and system.

3) if it makes it into Windows the normal way, then manually set the resolution and refresh rate to a guaranteed-workable one, like 800 x 600 x 32-bit at 60Hz.

4) Shut down, unplug the computer's power cable, swap to your LCD monitor and then plug their power cords in and fire them up again. Will it come up in normal Windows now? If so, set the resolution and refresh rate to your monitor's native resolution, and 60Hz refresh rate.

The reason for unplugging power is that I've toasted a DVI connector on a video card by hot-plugging it before. Better safe than sorry when you're dealing with a nice card & monitor like that.
