Just got in the parts for a new pc for my dad. I have an old zalman cnps9000 heatsink. I was wanting to put it on the new motherboard but I have an issue.

I have an old motherboard that has the yellow piece around the processor. Hope this link works.
CLICK.

Can I remove it so I can put it on the new mobo for the zalman???? If so, how can I remove it? I don't want to break it.

Any ideas?

nevermind. after I went in and looked at it closer, I don't think it will fit. I htought the holes would line up.

Man, I hate using the stock cooler.

Check arounf google and see if you can find a replacment barcket for the cooler to fit the new motherboard. I'm pretty sure Zaleman offers a universal bracket that will work for you.

I bought the universal bracket to try with a 7000-alcu and 775 motherboard -- the heatsink still wouldn't fit because the "arms" below the flower fins stuck out too far and overlapped a motherboard heatsink 🙁

Luckily the intel stock cooler for the E8400 is actually very good, nice and quiet.

Got it working. I remembered keeping all the packaging when I bought it. It had the bracket for the 775 and everyhting went to gether just fine. Still getting some other wires connected so it might be late tonight before i can hit the ON button.

thanks for the help.
