Abit AN8 AMD Athlon 64/64FX , DDR 400 Dual Channel, PCI-E, NV SATA Raid, NV GbE, (Socket 939) with a 3000+ venice , and a 6600gt
Would this build be MUCH better then the one in my sig?. I need to know some responses before I go ahead and get these parts for the system. If any one has any thoughts or ideas pls let me know. THX

The 6600GT is close to a 9800pro in performance. The 3000+ Venice is better performing than the one in your current board but, not enough to warrant a $400 upgrade IMO. I'll bet you won't see much of a difference.

Is the 2800 an XP or 64? Is it s754 or s939? Looks to me like you're laying out a long-term upgrade plan rather than an immediate performance boost. It's not MUCH better than what you've got, but will make another upgrade in 1yr cheaper and easier.

The board in the op's sig is A7N8X, therefore, he's using a 2800+ Athlon XP CPU. The Athlon 64 3000+ will perform a bit better due to the improved architecture, but, not much. Upgrading from a 9800pro to 6600GT is a complete waste of money IMHO.

Seconded. If you can't afford a whole new build, get an AGP 6800GT. That'll make the biggest difference. Check eBay and the FS/T forum here, lots of people are upgrading to 7800 cards and want to get rid of their 6800 ones. Might score a bargain.

lot of money for 10% more performance. i think its wiser to save for a bigger upgrade. X800XL and A64 oc´ed is what iam talking about. The cheaper X800XL models are about $250.
