Help with Netgear Firmware update

Hello, I was going to upgrade the firmware of my netgear router to 3.20 and normally id give it a shot myself. However last time i tried to upgrade the firmware on it, it froze in the middle and I had to send it back to the manufacturer to get it fixed. Could anyone walk me through the easiest way to update it? Thanks.

I hooked up the serial cable it came with to COM1 and to the router. Opened a telnet program (Hyperterminal) and made a connection to COM1. Logged into the router to verify the connection. Power cycled the router by yanking the power plug. Followed the instructions on Netgear's site.

The nice thing is, if you don't need the features of the latest firmware, you don't have to upgrade to it.
