Sorry to drudge up an old thread...

But I figured I'd chime in so more people were aware about this.

I too have the 3520a and indeed when I put my FujiFilm (TaiyoYuden) blank CDR into the drive, my only burn speed options with this drive are 8x or 16x (this is even less than the 24x rating on the pack label!).

I'm using Nero 6.6.0.13 and the latest Firmware (hacked 3.04) and I'm still limited to the mere 8x or 16x (the Lite-On 812s I upgrade from burns these CDs at 40x!! So this is rather disappointing).

My 4x rated DVD+R Riteks are burning at 12x with this drive and I LOVE that, but I didn't know I'd be DOWNGRADING for CD Burning! :(

Upgrading the firmware to 3.04 took care of the issues I had with the Memorex disks not wanting to burn at 48X. Since you're already at that rev, I'm not sure what else to try. (Unless the firmware hack somehow messed up the CD burning capability).
